Re-stocked bouquets late yesterday for you Sunday fun day @swamprabbitcafe crowds! The last of the beefy first flush of snapdragons mixed with campanula (a lot of it got taller than I expected if you recall my whining about it a few weeks ago!) and foxglove. I’m about to be between crops somewhat as I rip out hundreds of spring plants faltering in this dry heat. I’m also faltering in the heat, ugh. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Also channeling my rage at the assault on our rights in this backwards ass country of ours into lots of weed ripping and sweat so I can sleep better between the waking hours nightmare of the news cycle. I’m livid that the battles won nearly half a century ago are just unraveling. Tired of imagining so vividly our dystopian future that’s inched even closer than I thought it would at this point in my life. We are literally killing the planet, I have actually been worried about this fact for half my life, and our “leaders” are only worried about their donor base, using your uterus as a political chess piece. Do NOT come at me in the comments about life starts at whatever level of cellular clumping you cling to. The hypocrisy is staggering and if these wankers actually cared about babies (or mothers) they wouldn’t be actively making it harder for us to feed and educate our babies. Put your “ethics” about the sanctity of all lives into policy and then I’ll believe you aren’t just trying to keep women second class incubators too tired to fight back. Sigh.

Grew a little test plot of these magical poppies just to see their incredible faces. They don’t hold up very well as a cut 😓Most of the plants are white with grey eyeballs, then a choice few with these colors that are making me groan out loud at their crackle weirdo textures. That small lavender one at the top has a grey undertone that is absolutely unreal. Please someone mix the tough stemmed tall genetics of the colibri poppies with these colors and I will die happy. Such a lovely day at the gorgeous @southernbleachery when the dogwoods had just pushed open their buds not a day too soon or late. ✨I’m already deep in mourning that spring is coming to a close, and giggling at my friends up North who are still barely seeing any green yet. May in the south is such an emotional whirlwind of spring crashing into summer. The next couple of days with low humidity mid 70s temps is going to be so delicious! Cutting my office hours short until later in the week so if I owe you an email sorryyyy I’ll be out here barefoot transplanting and raking out compost like a mad woman because it’ll be highs in the upper 90s soon enough and I’ll essentially crawl around like a sloth streaming sweat from every pore getting less than half as much done until basically November if autumn is anything like last year 🤦🏻‍♀️ 😂 The best thing about hot swamp for air weather climate is tubing on our spring fed creeks and rivers that are always bone chilling and damn I don’t think I could actually survive manual labor in SC without the option to plunge (often still fully clothed in my gardening uniform of quick dry climbing pants and sports bra) into icy waters. Tomorrow is your last chance to buy the very last of my first successful crop of ranunculus 😭Find these in mixed bundles on the patio of @thevillagegrind from 10-2! Peonies, campanula and foxglove and more!! I’m having trouble letting go of these beauties but I grew them to sell not hoard buckets worth to coo over, petting their ruffles obsessively. This picotee version has led to many folks asking if they are dyed to look like this which always makes me giggle. It’s all natural baby! Flowers are so beautiful on their own without any artificial additions, nothing brings me more joy than the wonder on people’s faces at varieties they have never even seen, when I get to sell the luscious spoils of my sweaty labor and blow minds in the process. Buy local for your momma and blow her mind! See you tomorrow, don’t be scared of some rain it’s actually perfect for the flowers, no wilting.
